Parish Pastoral Council Minutes - April 24th 2023

In Attendance: Father Guy Roberts, Deacon Tom Hosty, Matt Sierp, Joe Sheehan, Amberlie O’Toole, Wendy McCoy, Connie Merkel, Patty Cain, Steve Looney, Claire Jackson, Mark Rund

Father Guy opened the meeting with a prayer.  Father Guy shared the reading from John from today and shared a reflection of the reading.
The Minutes from the February meeting were approved.

Pastor’s Report:
The Easter Vigil and Easter Masses went well. Father Guy gave thanks to the pastoral staff and lay people for their part.  The Women’s self-defense class is coming up on April 29th. We will have 57 First Communicants on May 13th.  There will be a First Thursday of May Holy Hour and Rosaries on Thursdays in May.  The Pastoral Vision has been completed.  Now we have to make sure ministries and commissions are implementing it.

Principal’s Report: via Father Guy per his meeting with Ryan Schnarr
The School Vision has 4 communities it is focusing on:  (1)Children as persons, (2)Parents/ family at home, (3)Teaching staff – (must have ongoing formation / what can they expect of us and vice versa/ nurturing their vocation), and (4)the Larger community of St. B – (that don’t have children at the school.)

Financial and Operational Report:
Ahead of budget overall but a bit behind from last year at this time. YTD $1,561,606 this year; $1,573,522 last year; $1,543,882 budgeted.

Stewardship Committee Update:
We are close to the 40 or 50 yard line in reaching our goal of the number of covenant renewals returned.  Laura Bridgewater is compiling the report of all volunteers who signed up for ministries on the covenant renewal and then she will give it to ministry leaders.

Operations Update: Facilities:
We have to pay $4000 to ensure a water pipe burst doesn’t happen again in that area of the narthex.  Additional insulation will be added to protect the pipes better.  The new HVAC is on order. The tentative delivery is September and will be installed at that time.  The Rectory HVAC  will be delivered later this week.

Pastoral Visioning Process: The plan is to have a subgroup under stewardship – evangelization.  We will be gauging on a yearly basis if ministries/commissions met the goals set out in the pastoral vision by giving ministries a quick survey in March/April 2024.  There was a suggestion of having ministries/commissions attach the vision to minutes/agenda of every meeting.

Men’s Club:
The parish council tabled the discussion of the Football Field renovations at the last meeting.
Unrelated but the safety committee has suggested a barrier along the football field side that runs along Rahke road – a fence or bollards for safety.  The idea is for grading to start in November and plant seed in February / March.  Men’s club will fund the grading/seeding/irrigation.  Amberlie will contact Dollyne Sherman, a neighbor and politician, to ask for whom to contact at AES about lines being moved/buried for telephone poles. Field grading/seeding/irrigation funded by Men’s Club.

Other Business:
Faith Formation – Joe Sheehan asked if there was a pastoral vision blueprint for bi-laws for other commissions.  Father suggested that we let commissions do their own bi-laws to keep them on point.

Deacon Tom Hosty closed the meeting with a blessing.

Monday May 22nd next meeting 7 pm.
