Getting Confirmed?

Registration for the 2023-24 School Year’s Confirmation program will begin in January 2024. Classes will run from February through May in anticipation of the August 2024 Confirmation Mass.

Parents and Students, please join us at one of our informational sessions on January 22nd or January 30th, 2024 at St. Barnabas.

Confirmation is a life-long process that became with the graces of your Baptism and will give you the ability to receive graces to live as a Catholic for the rest of your life! In order to help guide you along the process, information on Confirmation Preparation is listed below.

Confirmation Preparation typically takes place in 8th grade. St. Barnabas School students receive their formation classes during the school day; students who do not attend St. Barnabas School will meet on various Sunday afternoons throughout the year.

Students in high school may also receive Confirmation if they have already received Baptism and First Communion. Those over the age of 18 seeking to be Confirmed should do so through the RCIA process. For any questions, please contact the Coordinator of Youth & Young Adult Ministry, Brendan Slovacek, at bslovacek@stbindy.org.

Confirmation Info Sessions!

8th Grade and High School Students who intend to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in 2024 are asked to attend one of the info nights with a parent/guardian to learn more about the Confirmation process, how to register, and more! You may attend on either Monday, January 22nd OR Tuesday, January 30th from 6:30-7:30pm in the main sanctuary space of the church.

  • Registration materials will be made available at the Info Sessions. The Confirmation Preparation fee is $25 per student; no student will be turned away due to a lack of funds.

  • For current 8th Graders who attend St. Barnabas Catholic School, Confirmation Preparation will take place as part of the Religion Class Curriculum during the school day. For non-St. Barnabas School students, Confirmation Preparation will take place on various Sunday afternoons throughout the Spring Semester (a more detailed schedule will be made available at the Info Session).

  • Please contact Brendan Slovacek in the Youth Ministry Office at (317) 882-0724 ext. 272, or at bslovacek@stbindy.org.

Confirmation Preparation

  • Register for Confirmation Preparation Classes

Confirmation is a big deal! It completes the works of grace that have begun in Baptism and enables the candidate to fully live out a life of faith in the Church. This Sacrament requires each person to choose it for themselves, and thus a strong knowledge of the faith and Sacraments is necessary. To assist in this, St. Barnabas holds Confirmation Classes for youth (under the age of 18) on designated dates. These classes are a required part of receiving Confirmation in the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. Registration for the 2024 Confirmation Class opens on Jan. 22!

  • Confirmation Saint Names and Sponsors

In the life of the faith, we must constantly strive for holiness. This means we have to learn what holiness looks like! In Confirmation, we take a new name (Like Abram becoming Abraham or Saul becoming Paul) to symbolize our new life in Christ. We specifically choose the name of a saint who acts as a model of holiness to us, as well as a heavenly intercessor. Further, we also seek the guidance of our sponsor, who is a living, breathing, practicing Catholic that we look up to and walks with us on our journey of faith.

  • Service Hours

The life of a Catholic can be summed up in four words: Prayer, Sacraments, Fellowship, and Service. Often times, young people don’t have the opportunities or guidance for service. Thus, as part of our Confirmation program, we strive to instill a culture of service in our candidates. Each candidate is required to complete 15 hours of service before August 1st, 2024. Information and a form to submit your Confirmation service hours can be found below. For more questions, please contact Brendan Slovacek at bslovacek@stbindy.org.
