Liturgical Ministries
Arts and Environment
By means of flowers, banners, and decorations, this ministry strives to create an appropriate worship space for the liturgical season of the year which draws the congregation into the progress of solemnity in our worship. Throughout the year, we have extended periods of celebration for Christmas, Easter, and Lent. Each season has a special feel. This ministry helps to plan, order, place, maintain, and remove those decorations as needed. Contact Dianne Mohr at mohrdianne@hotmail.com if interested in participating.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
While it is, first of all, the office of the priest and the deacon to minister holy communion to the faithful, the local bishop may give other special ministers the faculty to give communion whenever it seems necessary (Eucharisticum Mysterium, 31). We at Saint Barnabas commission such members of the laity as Extra-Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion for a two year term (after which one is welcome to request to be re-commissioned).
These Eucharistic Ministers are responsible for preparing the chalices and bowls for Mass, distributing Holy Communion during Mass, and cleaning these vessels for the next Mass. They are also responsible for helping the priest and the deacon take Holy Communion to the sick and homebound. Contact Renee Lange at reneelange@comcast.net if interested in becoming a Eucharistic Minister.

Children's Liturgy of the Word
This ministry helps provide an experience of the Liturgy of the Word, during Mass, at a level understandable for children in grades Pre-K to 1st. The Faith Formation Office provides resources such as a Children’s Lectionary, planning resources, and reflection materials. Contact the Office of Faith Formation at 317-882-0724 if interested in volunteering.
Lectors
It is the responsibility of the lectors to proclaim the Word of God to the assembly at Mass. The Lord speaks to each of us through His Word and in a special way during Mass. This ministry prepares and gives a clear proclamation of that Word at Mass. A workbook resource for proclaiming the Sunday readings is distributed to lectors who are scheduled on a monthly basis for weekend Masses. Contact Dave Heinekamp at ddh82@att.net if interested in becoming a Lector.
Mass Coordinator
The Mass Coordinator assigned for weekend and holy day Masses is responsible for overseeing that all liturgical assignments are filled before Mass begins. This ministry also helps to communicate between the different liturgical ministries any special rituals or events during the Mass. Contact Jeff Biltz at jbiltzfamily@att.net if interested in becoming a Mass Coordinator.
Servers
The ministry of servers is comprised of young men and women (5th to 8th grade) who assist the priest during the celebration of the Mass. Servers assist at weekend Masses, funerals, and weddings. The server is responsible for increasing the solemnity and reverence of the Mass by their gestures and assisting the priest with the Missal, vessels, and linens during the Mass.
Contact Deacon Pat Bower, wpbower@comcast.net if interested in serving.

Ushers
A friendly smile and warm greeting is a main part of this ministry. The women and men who serve as ushers are often the first persons people meet as they gather for worship at Saint Barnabas. Ushers hold the responsibility of gathering the people, assisting them in finding seats, taking up the collection(s), and handing out bulletins. If there is someone with a special need (a wheelchair, communion at one’s seat, etc.), the usher is the person who assists the fulfillment of this need. Contact John Wagner, at jjw5284@aol.com if interested in participating.
