The Eucharist is the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ, and is the “source and summit of the Christian life” (Lumen Gentium 11). However, preparation for making one’s First Communion is preceded by the sacrament of Reconciliation in order to ready the mind and heart to receive Jesus in this special way.
Sacramental preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion usually takes place when a child is in the second grade. Preparation is done either in Saint Barnabas School or through Saint Barnabas Sunday Faith Formation.
Sacramental Preparation: In 2nd grade, the children are welcome to begin preparing for their First Reconciliation in the fall and their First Holy Communion in the spring. In order to receive these sacraments, the child must first be baptized and the parish office must have a copy of the baptismal certificate on file. If the child is under the age of 7, contact Theresa Warner at twarner@stbindy.org to schedule a baptism. If the child is 7 or older, please contact the Director of Faith Formation, Joe Sheehan at jsheehan@stbindy.org."
